Find Your RepresentativesCity of Baltimore
Baltimore City was incorporated in 1796 and separated from Baltimore County in 1851 to become an "independent city." This means that Baltimore City is a separate government entity from Baltimore County. The State of Maryland is governed by the Executive Branch, which includes the Governor, Lt. Governor, and cabinet; the Legislative Branch, which is composed of the House of Delegates and State senate; and the Judicial Branch. The power of the Executive Branch is vested in the President of the United States, who also acts as head of state and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces. Maryland State Publications Depository & Distribution Program (SPDDP): The Maryland Government Documents collection, maintained by the Enoch Pratt Free Library & State Library Resource Center (SLRC), contains executive, legislative, and judicial publications issued by agencies and departments of the Maryland State Government.
