City of Baltimore

Baltimore City was incorporated in 1796 and separated from Baltimore County in 1851 to become an "independent city." This means that Baltimore City is a separate government entity from Baltimore County. The State of Maryland is governed by the Executive Branch, which includes the Governor, Lt. The power of the Executive Branch is vested in the President of the United States, who also acts as head of state and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces. Maryland State Publications Depository & Distribution Program (SPDDP): The Maryland Government Documents collection, maintained by the Enoch Pratt Free Library & State Library Resource Center (SLRC), contains executive, legislative, and judicial publications issued by agencies and departments of the Maryland State Government.
